Columbus, Ohio Photographer: Final HDR Project

Tonight my final project in my HDR class is due. The only rule was that it had to include people (which if you know anything about HDR, that makes for a HUGE challenge since HDR subjects are easiest when stationary). It's hard to ask someone to sit COMPLETELY still while you shoot 9 images of them.

Anyways, my friends Nate and Maria were so nice to pose for me at the park across from my house. Here is the result. How adorable! Thanks for your help you two!

Columbus, Ohio Photographer: HDR Happy

So, I finally broke down and purchased a license for the HDR software I wanted. I got a beautiful deal on it, so I couldn't say no. And now, I'm a little HDR-Happy. (They warned me about this... don't HDR EVERYTHING!!)

Here are three recent projects I've been working on. Last week I had a project to compose an interior shot with exterior lighting coming in. To get my inspiration, I called the kind people at Columbus' BoMA (Bar of Modern Art) to see if I could shoot some images of their stained glass windows. Here is the result.

And, for this week's outdoor shot, I chose an exterior image of BoMA. It is a former church converted to a night club/restaurant/event hall. Very, very cool! I made it a little bit spooky looking too. It was an overcast yuck-o day.

Finally, I took this image at Greenlawn Cemetery earlier this month, but never processed it. A lot of wild looking tombs and mausoleums there if you've never been! Great for (HDR) photographers.

Columbus, Ohio Photographer: Race for a Cause, Race for a Cure!

This morning, my husband Adam and I were two of over 45,000 people to participate in Columbus' Komen Race for the Cure. It was our first time walking in the 5K race, but I'm sure it won't be our last!

My friends from work at CSCC (thanks to them for taking some of the great shots!) put together a group to join 10TV News' "Heather's Team." Heather Pick was a reporter from the station who lost her battle with breast cancer in 2008. Her team was able to gain over 7,000 members to participate in the race this year. As a tribute to Heather, who wore a pink wig on her last newscast, we were each given pink wigs to wear. Here are Adam and I posing in our wigs.
And here is our mini-team consisting of Sue, Laura, Adam, Marcy, me, Adam, Riki, and Janet. Go team!
There were lots of vendors there (I wish we had more time to look around), but in high demand were the pink hero capes which we proudly wore throughout the entire race.

During the race it was amazing to see the sea of people that were heading towards the downtown Columbus skyline, as far as the eye could see in front of us and behind us.
This was our final leg of the race, and since it's heading downhill a bit it gives you a better perspective of just HOW MANY people were there! Over $2 Million was raised by Columbus today. Woohoo!

And of course my puppy Tators is a huge supporter of the race. He was happy to pose in the pink wig when we got home, too.

If the Race ever comes to your hometown, I hope you can get to experience this amazing, inspiring event! It's very fun, but emotional at the same time to see all the survivors and to learn about the loved ones who the participants are walking in celebration or in memory of... I learned today that the reality is that this awful disease touches everyone's life in some way. Support the cause!
