Happy New Year blog! 2009 was an awesome, busy year. My business (and I, as a photographer) grew so much over the last year and I look forward with great anticipation for what 2010 will bring. I know there are definitely some new little ones on the way, and some great new marriages beginning. I can't wait for all of it!! I'm going to enjoy some peace and relaxation here in the first few months of the year, as I cut back on my day job (sort of!) and spend more time focusing on my business/hobby/passion. I know this summer and fall will be a busy one again.
So, as with tradition, I reflected back on the past year, and here is a tribute to all the great people (and pets!) whom I met over the past year and had the pleasure of doing business with.
Enjoy!! And THANK YOU!! Keep an eye on the blog and website for updates and changes to come in the near future!

Columbus, Ohio Photographer: Final HDR Project
Tonight my final project in my HDR class is due. The only rule was that it had to include people (which if you know anything about HDR, that makes for a HUGE challenge since HDR subjects are easiest when stationary). It's hard to ask someone to sit COMPLETELY still while you shoot 9 images of them.
Anyways, my friends Nate and Maria were so nice to pose for me at the park across from my house. Here is the result. How adorable! Thanks for your help you two!
Cross your fingers for an "A"!

Columbus, Ohio Photographer: HDR Happy
So, I finally broke down and purchased a license for the HDR software I wanted. I got a beautiful deal on it, so I couldn't say no. And now, I'm a little HDR-Happy. (They warned me about this... don't HDR EVERYTHING!!)
Here are three recent projects I've been working on. Last week I had a project to compose an interior shot with exterior lighting coming in. To get my inspiration, I called the kind people at Columbus' BoMA (Bar of Modern Art) to see if I could shoot some images of their stained glass windows. Here is the result.

And, for this week's outdoor shot, I chose an exterior image of BoMA. It is a former church converted to a night club/restaurant/event hall. Very, very cool! I made it a little bit spooky looking too. It was an overcast yuck-o day.

Finally, I took this image at Greenlawn Cemetery earlier this month, but never processed it. A lot of wild looking tombs and mausoleums there if you've never been! Great for (HDR) photographers.

HDR Photo of the Week - Night Shot
This is my attempt at HDR for the week. Looks pretty spooky! This HDR image is 5 separate images shot at different exposures, rolled into one. They were taken around 10:30pm on Ohio Wesleyan University's campus in Delaware. Adam and Brutus accompanied me on the warm, windy night. I think it turned out pretty nice and colorful for a night shot! Enjoy!

Spring Family Portraits
FINALLY! Spring is here!!
For an on-location/natural lighting photographer... spring = photo sessions. My assistant hubby Adam and I met our friends Kathy, Sean, and Aidan for the afternoon for lunch and to meet their new doggy - Boomer. (How cute is that name??) The beautiful weather made for a perfect day for some family photos. Boomer posed very nicely.... and so did the rest of the family!
I figure you can always keep kids interested in taking photos when they get to make some funny faces.

My favorite photo from the afternoon... there is nothing better than a boy and his beagle. It reminds me of my beagle growing up, Mandy. Boomer is just the sweetest, most loving guy. (P.S. Sean - I still think Boomer should get to sleep in the bed!)

Cute expressions - leave it to Aidan to be goofy!

Dad and Aidan didn't know I was watching them with my zoom lens... what a sweet moment - picking "flowers" in the field (aka. dandelions).

And at the end of the day... this photo CRACKS me up!! I think Boomer is saying, "Come on lady, how many more photos do you need??" Too cute! He was looking right up at me, into the sun, so I just had to snap this cute shot.

My HDR photo of the week - the gazebo in Blacklick where we took photos. Beautiful blue sky and green plants.

Enjoy what's left of the beautiful weekend! I hope the weather turns out this great for my photo sessions next weekend!
